Novaluron

Novaluron is an insect growth regulator and shows killing effect against various larvae of genus Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and Diptera.

The industrial synthesis of novaluron begins with the preparation of a key intermediate: 3-chloro-4-[1,1,2-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)ethoxy]aniline. This intermediate is synthesised via an etherification reaction between trifluoromethoxytrifluoroethylene and 2-chloro-4-aminophenol, forming the complex fluorinated aromatic structure. The resulting aniline derivative is then acylated with 2,6-difluorobenzoyl chloride to form the benzoylphenyl backbone. Finally, the compound undergoes urea formation through reaction with isocyanates or carbodiimides, yielding the active novaluron molecule. These reactions are typically carried out in organic solvents such as acetonitrile or dichloromethane under controlled temperature and pH conditions to ensure high yield and purity.
