White crystalline powder, soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and DMSO, derived from Aconitum.
An aconitine alkaloid, ranaconitine occurs in the ethanolic extract of the Bulgarian plant
Aconitum ranunculaefolium. It forms colourless needles when crystallized from EtOH and
is dextrorotatory with a specific rotation of [α]D +33.2° (c 0.5, CHCI3 ). Hydrolysis with
5% KOH furnishes ranaconine, C23H37NO7 , m.p. 107-109°C and N-acetylanthranilic
acid.
Ranaconitine is an important diterpenoid alkaloid from Aconitum sinomontanum and displayspotential anti-inflammatory analgesic activity as well as antagonism and modulation of voltage-gated Na+ channels.
ChEBI: S-(2-aminoethyl)isothiourea is an imidothiocarbamic ester.
