5-Oxa-2-octyne-1,7-diol is a monomer belonging to the class of heterocyclic compounds. It is a condensation of butynediol and propylene oxide and is one of the most commonly used intermediates for long-lasting nickel plating. It has been used in studies for coating silicones on metal surfaces. The compound is also a surfactant used for cleaning and degreasing dishes, pots and pans. It is often used in conjunction with secondary whitening agents such as PAP. 5-Oxa-2-octyne-1,7-diol is resistant to degradation by sulfate or carboxylic acid ester solvents. It has shown activity as a monomer with methyl ester and alkenyl groups and can be used in polymer and acid nickel plating additives and their preparation methods studies.
