Hydroprene is synthesised through a stereoselective multi-step process starting from a bromoester precursor. The key transformation involves a Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, which forms the central Csp²–Csp² bond and establishes the desired stereochemistry of the diene system. The synthesis proceeds through approximately seven steps, including oxidation, reduction, and etherification, with reagents such as manganese dioxide, sodium borohydride, and phosphorus tribromide used at various stages. Careful temperature control is essential to maintain stereoselectivity and prevent degradation. The final product, (S)-(+)-hydroprene, is purified and formulated.
