Hexamethylenetetramine is used in the manufacturing of phenolic resins liquid preparations and molding compounds. It finds applications in in brake and clutch linings, abrasive products, non-woven textiles and fireproof materials. It is also used as a drug taken by mouth to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections. It is used as a solid fuel in association with 1,3,5-trioxane in campers, hobbyists, the military and relief organizations. It acts as a food additive and as a preservative. It is an important reagent in organic synthesis, especially Duff reaction, Sommelet reaction and in the Delepine reaction. Further, it is used in adhesives, coatings, sealants, and leather preservatives. It is utilized as a formaldehyde releaser for photographic film development and as a hardener for epoxy resins of the bisphenol A type.
