Boldine is an aporphine alkaloid, first extracted from the leaves and bark of P. boldus, that possesses antioxidant and free-radical scavenging ability. Its potent antioxidant activity has been linked to anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anti-diabetic, anti-atherogenic, anti-platelet, anti-tumor, UV-protective, and hepatoprotective effects.
