Chemical Properties
Orange crystals obtained from nitrobenzene, melting point is 300°C. Freely soluble in hot benzene and hot nitrobenzene, slightly soluble in ethanol, ether, acetic acid and benzene, some crystals decompose when sublimation.
Uses
Dibenzo[def,mno]chrysene-6,12-dione is used as a dye intermediate. It is used in the production of Brilliant Orange RK, vat-type BG, and lysothene-based Brilliant Orange IRK, etc.
Purification Methods
Crystallise it from chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene or CHCl3 (m 340o). [Beilstein 7 I 451, 7 II 783, 7 III 4406, 7 IV 2694.]
