Description
Cyflufenamid is a preventative and curative fungicide. It has a low aqueous solubility and s non-volatile. It may be persistent in some soil and water systems depending on local conditions. The risk of leaching to groundwater is low. It is moderately toxic to aquatic organisms, but less so to birds and honeybees. It has a low oral mammalian toxicity and is an irritant.
Uses
Cyflufenamid-d5 is the isotope labelled analog of Cyflufenamid, which is a novel fungicide.
Definition
ChEBI: A member of the class of (trifluoromethyl)benzenes that is 2,3-difluoro-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzenecarboxamidine in which the hydrogen attached to the imino nitrogen is replaced by a cyclopropylmethoxy group while one of the hydrogens attached to the other
itrogen is replaced by a phenylacetyl group. It is used as a fungicide for the control of powdery mildew in cereal crops as well as in apple and pear orchards.
Production Methods
Cyflufenamid is commercially produced through a multi-step organic synthesis involving fluorinated aromatic compounds. The process typically begins with the preparation of a substituted aniline derivative, which undergoes acylation and subsequent reactions to introduce the key functional groups, including the trifluoromethyl and cyano moieties that contribute to its biological activity. These steps are carried out under controlled conditions using specialised reagents and catalysts to ensure high yield and purity.
Mechanism of action
Preventative and curative activity, acts by inhibiting fungal development and disruption of haustorium formation and function.
