Chemical Properties
Bicyclohexyl is a colourless liquid. Solidifies in the cold, melts
at 3° C. B.P. 214° C. Sp.Gr. 0.89.
Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and
oils.
Sweet, mild-aromatic, but rather “chemical”
odor.
Uses
Bicyclohexyl is used as process media or solvent in many industries including chemicals, petrochemicals, polymers, coatings, photography. And it is also used to produce 1-fluorobicyclohexyl at temperature of -75°C.
Uses
Bicyclohexyl can be used high-boiling solvent and penetrant. It Has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, mainly as a modifier in low-cost
Geranium, New Mown Hay, Lavender, Rose
and other bases.
Preparation
By catalytic
reduction of Diphenyl.
Purification Methods
Shake bicyclohexyl repeatedly with aqueous KMnO4 and with conc H2SO4, wash it with water, dry, first with CaCl2 then with sodium, and distil it. [Mackenzie J Am Chem Soc 77 2214 1955, Beilstein 5 IV 334.]
