Definition
Propamocarb is a carbamate ester that is the propyl ester of 3-(dimethylamino)propylcarbamic acid. It is a systemic fungicide, used (normally as the hydrochloride salt) for the control of soil, root and leaf diseases caused by oomycetes, particularly Phytophthora /ital> and Pythium species.
Production Methods
Propamocarb is commercially synthesised by a process involves a nucleophilic substitution reaction where the amine group of DMAPA attacks the electrophilic carbon of the chloroformate, yielding propamocarb. The resulting compound is normally formulated as a hydrochloride salt (propamocarb-HCl) to enhance water solubility and stability
