Silica Gel 60, Standard Grades are offered in sizes from 5-500µm and are excellent for MPLC, flash chromatography, gravity column chromatography, and for making TLC plates.
Chemical Properties
Silica Gel 60 has violent reactions with powerful oxidizers: fluorine, chlorine trifluoride; manganese trioxide; oxygen difluoride, hydrogen peroxide, etc.; acetylene; ammonia.
Physical properties
Silica Gel 60 is odorless, soluble in hydrofluoric acid. Insoluble in water.
Uses
Silica gel 60 is used for column chromatography.
Carcinogenicity
Confirmed carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic and tumorigenic data. Poison by intratracheal route. An inhalation hazard. Human systemic effects by inhalation: cough, dyspnea, fibrosis. About twice as toxic as silica in causing sihcosis.
