Direct Black 17 (CAS# 2945-96-2) is an organic azo dye. When coordinted to Cu(II) metal centers, direct black 17 aids in the polarization of light in the near-UV region and visible spectra.

green light gray to green and black. Black powder. Soluble in water for violet black, 80 ℃ in the solubility of 20 g/L, soluble in ethanol gray light purple.
