TRIPROPYLENE GLYCOL METHYL ETHER(20324-33-8) may react violently with strong oxidizing agents. May generate flammable and/or toxic gases with alkali metals, nitrides, and other strong reducing agents. May initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides.

Oxidizes readily in air to form unstable peroxides that may explode spontaneously [Bretherick 1979. p.151-154, 164].

May cause slight transient (temporary) eye irritation. Corneal injury is unlikely. Prolonged or repeated exposure is not likely to cause significant skin irritation. Repeated prolonged exposure may cause sleepiness. Single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in absorption of harmful amount through skin. Low oral toxicity. Ingestion of large amount may cause injury. Exposure may have anesthetic or narcotic effects.

Tripropylene glycol monomethyl ether is a colorless liquid possessing a mild, pleasant odor. It is completely miscible with a wide variety of organic products and water. This solubility for a wide range of organic products is due to the presence of the hydroxyl, ether and alkyl group in the molecule. It is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, liquid soaps, cleaning formulation, printing and writing inks, dyeing formulations, wood stains and in lacquers, paints and varnish formulations.
