  Under stirring, a solution of n-butyllithium (5.3 mL, 1.2 M) in n-hexane was slowly added dropwise (6.33 mmol) to 2-bromopyridine (6.33 mmol) dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF 10 mL). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at -78 °C for 1 hour, followed by the addition of ethyl chloroformate (0.3 mL, 2.85 mmol). The reaction mixture was then brought to room temperature and stirred for 12 hours. After the reaction was complete, 5 mL of water was added to quench the reaction. The aqueous layer was then extracted with dichloromethane (3 × 10 mL), and the combined organic matter was washed with NaHCO3 (15 mL saturated aqueous solution) and brine (10 mL). The organic layer was then dried over MgSO4, and the solution was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography to obtain the target product molecule.
