What are the uses and benefits of Tributyl phosphate?

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) is a widespread extracting agent generally used in processing transuranium elements and removing them from wastewaters of the nuclear industry. It can also be applied as a chemical reagent, plasticiser, high boiling point solvent, heat transfer medium, building material additive, coating, adhesive, defoamer, antistatic agent, solvent for dyes and printing aids, lubricating oil pressure and anti-wear agent. In addition, tributyl phosphate defoamer was developed as a plasticiser for cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl chloride, and as an extractant for rare metals. It is characterised by fast defoaming speed, low cost and wide industrial application.
