Physicochemical properties of 3-Iodophenol and its derivatives
3-Iodophenol is a halogenated phenolic compound used as a reagent in esterification, electrophilic aromatic substitution, alkylation, nucleophilic aromatic substitution, Mitsunobu, transition metal-catalysed cross-coupling, acylation and oxidation reactions. Physical Data: 3-fluorophenol, bp = 178 °C, mp = 8–12 °C; 3-chlorophenol, bp = 214 °C, mp = 31–34 °C; 3-bromophenol, bp = 236 °C, mp = 28–32 °C; 3-iodophenol, bp = 190 °C, mp = 42–44 °C. Solubility: 3-fluorophenol and 3-bromophenol are insoluble in H2O; 3-iodophenol is slightly soluble in H2O; 3-chlorophenol is H2O soluble. All reagents are soluble in DMSO. Form Supplied in: light yellow liquid (3-fluorophenol); light yellow semisolid/liquid (3-chlorophenol, 3-bromophenol); yellow to gray solid (3-iodophenol). Handling, Storage, and Precautions: all reagents are stable under room temperature and normal pressures. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and acid halides.
