P-cresyl acetate: Chemical properties; Content analysis; Uses

Oct 23,2019

Chemical properties

Colorless liquid. Boiling point: 212 ° C, relative density: 1.044-1.050, refractive index: 1.499-1.502, flash point: 95 ° C, soluble in 2 volumes of 70% ethanol and oily spice with acid value ≤ 1.0. Strong narcissus-like floral fragnance and coarse animal scent. Ordour strength when smell in <1% is more comfortable. The fragnance is strong, but doesn't last long. P-cresyl acetate is produced by direct esterification of phenol and acetic anhydride.

Content analysis

Determined as per Method 2 in the ester assay (OT-18). The amount of the sample used was 1.2 g. The phenol red test solution (TS-166) was used as an indicator in the titration. The equivalent factor (e) in the calculation was taken as 75.09. It is better to be measured by the non-polar column method in GT-10-4.

Uses

Suitable for narcissus, daffodil and large flower jasmine, P-cresyl acetate is also suitable for use in white orchid, lilac, lily of the valley, hyacinth, fragrant roy, and ylang-ylang type. It has the effect of increasing the rich floral fragrance. The quantity of use is generally less than 1%. It is sometimes used in flavors such as nutty flavors.

P-cresyl acetate is used to prepare spices with cananga- ,ylang , narcissus and honeysuckle connotations. It has sufficient effect when the concentrationis 1% and below. A small amount is also used in food flavors.
