Applications of Polyethylene-polypropylene glycol

Poloxamer (oloame) is Polyethylene-polypropylene glycol block copolymer, the trade name is luromio. This is a new type of polymer nonionic surfactant. White or light yellow translucent solid; slightly smelly. It is easily soluble in ethanol or water, soluble in absolute ethanol or ethyl acetate, and almost insoluble in ether or petroleum ether. Theoretically, there can be countless kinds of compounds with such basic structures. NF stipulates that its molecular weight ranges from 1000 to 700 or more. The appropriate amount of polyoxypropylene and appropriate amount of polyoxyethylene are copolymerized to form compounds with different lipophilic water balance values.

Chemical properties

The polyoxyethylene content is 81.8+1 9%. Polyethylene-polypropylene glycol is easily soluble in water or ethanol, soluble in absolute ethanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform, almost insoluble in ether or petroleum ether, and has certain foaming properties. The pH value of 2.5% aqueous solution is between 5.0 and 7.5, and the pH value of injection users is between 6.0 and 7.0. The aqueous solution is relatively stable in the air, but will decrease the pH when exposed to light. This product is stable to acid-base aqueous solutions and metal ions.

Applications

1. As an emulsifier and stabilizer: Poloxamer188 (Pluronic F68) as an oil-in-water emulsifier is one of the very few synthetic emulsifiers currently used in intravenous emulsions.

2 As a solubilizer: This product can increase the surface solubility of many drugs due to the formation of micelles by surfactants, such as salicylic acid, diazepam, indomethacin, metronidazole, etc.

3 As an absorption enhancer: On the one hand, this product slows down the intestinal peristalsis, and the retention time of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract increases, and the absorption increases.

It can improve the bioavailability of oral preparations. On the other hand, this product has good compatibility with the skin, increases skin permeability, and can promote into the absorption of external medicines.

4 As a sustained-release material: a solid product with a large molecular weight, used as a binder, coating material, etc. to prepare tablets, capsules, and gels. Glue, etc., to achieve the purpose of slow release and controlled release, and has achieved satisfactory results.

5 As a solid dispersant: Pluronic solid type product can be used as a carrier for solid dispersions, such as phenylbutazone and yellow mold. The solid dispersions made of glutin, digoxin, digitoxin and this product greatly improve the solubility of these drugs and promote the absorption of these drugs.
