TRIS hydrochloride, also known as Tris, CAS: 1185-53-1 ,is a well-known biological buffer. In addition, is also used to prepare surfactants, vulcanization accelerators and intermediates of some drugs, and can also be used as pharmaceutical excipients, cosmetic additives, decoration coatings, etc.
Main application areas:
Tris buffers are not only widely used as solvents for nucleic acids and proteins, but also have many important uses. Tris was used for protein crystal growth at different pH conditions. The low ionic strength of Tris buffer can be used for the formation of intermediate fibers of lamin in C. elegans. Tris is also one of the main components of protein electrophoresis buffer. It forms a buffer system with glycine in the electrophoresis buffer to stabilize the pH during electrophoresis. In addition, Tris is also an intermediate in the preparation of surfactants, vulcanization accelerators and some pharmaceuticals. Tris is also used as a titration standard. When used as a protein buffer, if the subsequent work requires mass spectrometry, Tris is not suitable, and it is better to replace it with a buffer that can be tolerated by other mass spectrometers.
