Sulfasalazine is a sulfonamide antibacterial drug. Originally used for inflammatory bowel disease, namely Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, it has a dual effect of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Sulfonamide drugs that are not easily absorbed by oral administration. After the 1970s, it was discovered that it can improve joint pain, swelling, and stiffness in patients with mandatory spondylitis, and can reduce serum IgA levels and other laboratory activity indicators. It is particularly suitable for improving peripheral arthritis in patients with ankylosing spondylitis, and has a preventive effect on the recurrence and alleviation of the disease's concurrent pre pigmented membrane inflammation. With the progress of research, it has gradually been applied to rheumatoid arthritis. Until today, sulfasalazine has been widely used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and spinal joint disease.
