Description: Bicalutamide is a nonsteroidal androgen receptor antagonist that competes with androgens for the androgen receptors. It blocks the uptake of androgens by cells, inhibits the binding of androgens to target organs, and forms a receptor complex when bound to the androgen receptor. This complex then enters the cell nucleus, binds to nuclear proteins, and thereby inhibits the growth of tumor cells. It has been used widely in the therapy of prostate cancer.
