Properties:
White to light yellow granules, bars, or powder. Hygroscopic. Decomposed when heated to 320 °C or above. Slowly oxidize to sodium nitrate in the air. Released brown nitrous oxide gas in weak acid. Soluble in 1.5 times cold water
and 0.6 times boiling water, slightly soluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is alkaline with a pH of about 9. Relative density 2.17. Melting point is 270 ℃. It is oxidizing, burns and explodes in contact with organic matter, and emits poisonous and irritating gases of nitrogen peroxide and nitrogen oxide.
Application:
Mainly used in the manufacture of nitro compounds, azo dyes, mordant for fabric dyeing, bleach, metal thermal
treatment agent and pharmaceutical industry.
