Diuretics
Isosorbide is an dehydrated derivative of sorbitol. It is an oral osmotic dehydrating diuretic. Its mechanism of action is similar to that of intravenous mannitol and sorbitol. By increasing the plasma osmotic pressure, water in tissues (including eyes, brain, cerebrospinal fluid, etc.) can enter blood vessels, thereby reducing tissue edema, reducing intraocular pressure, intracranial pressure, and cerebrospinal fluid volume and pressure. Isosorbide is used for the treatment of cerebral edema and glaucoma.
