The products were indicated for the treatment of vertigo and had
been authorized for marketing under the "grandfather" clause, which waives full
registration requirements for products marketed before 1963.
Acetylleucine is synthesized from L-leucine via N-acylation with acetic anhydride in aqueous sodium hydroxide, followed by catalytic thermal racemization and purification through alkaline redissolution and acidification[1].
Acetylleucine (60 mg/kg, i.v., on days 1, 2 and 3 after unilateral labyrinthectomy (UL)) accelerates compensation of postural symptoms but not of nystagmus or head roll tilt after UL in rats[3].
