General procedure for the synthesis of 3-methylhydroxyazetidine hydrochloride from 1-Boc-3-hydroxymethylazetidine: compound 1-Boc-3-hydroxymethylazetidine (0.100 g, 0.534 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (2 mL), followed by the addition of a solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane (1 mL, 4 M). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was concentrated to afford the target product 3-methylhydroxyazetidine hydrochloride (white solid, 0.060 g, yield: 90.91%).
