Colorless transparent viscous liquid
4,4'-Methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine) (MACM) is a colorless/yellowish liquid with a water solubility of 3.6 g/l at 20°C and a vapor pressure of 0.08 Pa at 20°C. The measured log KOW is 2.51 at 25 °C. However, due to the Lewis base character of the substance, the experimental determination of the log KOW is inaccurate. The density of the substance (ca. 0.95 g/cm3 at 20°C) is virtually the same as that of water.
4,4′-Methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine) (MMCA) may be used:
- in the synthesis of fully aliphatic polyimides
- in the synthesis of fully aliphatic polyimide-siloxanes (APISiO)
- to prepare epoxy resin with trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether, used for the characterization of the structural organization in dragline silk by transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM).
4,4'-Methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine) can be used as epoxy curing agents.
4,4′-Methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine) is an alicyclic diamine.
Moderately toxic by inhalation.
Flammability and Explosibility
Non flammable
Moderately toxic by inhalation. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors ofNOx.
Add 2000kg 3,3'-dimethyl-4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane and 2000kg tetrahydrofuran to an autoclave with a volume of 6000L. Then, 100Kg 5% Ru/Al2O3 catalyst and 100Kg aluminum ammonium sulfate will be added, and the air in the autoclave will be replaced with hydrogen after sealing. Pour in 6MPa hydrogen, heat the autoclave to 160°C, adjust the hydrogen valve to maintain the pressure at 8MPa, and stir vigorously for 4 hours. After cooling, samples were taken and detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The detection results showed that the conversion rate of 3,3'-dimethyl-4,4-diaminodicyclohexylmethane was 100%, and the 4,4'-Methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine) (MACM) yield was 99.4%.
