Isocaryophyllene is an Z- isomer of β-Caryophyllene (C184725). β-Caryophyllene is one of the chemical compounds that contributes to the spiciness of black pepper. β-Caryophyllene was shown to selectively bind to the cannabinoid receptor type-2 (CB2) and to exert significant cannabimimetic antiinflammatory effects in mice.
ChEBI: Isocaryophyllene is a sesquiterpenoid.
Purify it by vacuum distillation or GLC using a nitrile-silicone column [Corey et al. J Am Chem Soc 86 485 1964, Ramage & Simonsen J Chem Soc 741 1936, Kumar et al.Synthesis 461 1976]. [Beilstein 5 III 1085.]
