3-(chloromethyl)-1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-Triazole hydrochloride

In a dry 100 mL reaction flask, under nitrogen protection, (1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methanol (0.25 g, 2.2 mmol) was dissolved in 10 mL of thionyl chloride. The resulting reaction mixture was heated to reflux and stirred for 2 hours while maintaining reflux. After the reaction was complete, the resulting reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and then concentrated to dryness under vacuum (toluene can be added to the reaction mixture for further concentration to remove residual thionyl chloride). The resulting white solid (0.2 g) is the target product 3-(chloromethyl)-1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole hydrochloride, which requires no further purification. 3-(Chloromethyl)-1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole hydrochloride is white or off-white solid at room temperature and pressure, with certain hygroscopicity and good chemical stability. It can be neutralized under alkaline conditions to release the corresponding triazole compounds, and the obtained triazole compounds have good chemical reaction activity and can participate in a variety of organic conversion reactions.
