Confirmed industrial routes are not available in open literature. However, industrial manufacture of furalane would probably follow the standard acetalisation process used for many 1,3 dioxolanes: furfural is reacted with ethylene glycol under acid catalysis, typically using a mineral acid or solid acid catalyst, while continuously removing water to drive the equilibrium toward acetal formation. After completion, the reaction mixture would be neutralised, washed, and distilled to yield technical grade furalane suitable for formulation.
