reddish solid; -8 mesh with 99.999% purity; enthalpy of vaporization 90.8 kJ/mol [CRC10] [CER91]
Brown-red when a compact solid; crimson red when finely ground and when sublimed; the melts are darker, almost black at the b.p. Relatively stable to water.
Indium(I) iodide can be used to prepare indium cluster and chain compounds. It is also used as a reagent to propagate organic reactions viz. cyclization and cleavage of diselenide or disulfide. It plays an important role in preparing indium containing complexes.
