General procedure for the synthesis of 1,2-diamino-3-methoxybenzene from 2-nitro-3-methoxyaniline: 5% palladium-carbon catalyst (18 mg, 20 wt%) was added to a solution of 2-nitro-3-methoxyaniline (90 mg, 0.54 mmol) in ethanol (3 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature in a hydrogen atmosphere for 18 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by diatomaceous earth filtration and the filtrate was subsequently evaporated to afford the target product 3-methoxy-1,2-benzenediamine (73 mg, 100% yield).
