General procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-5-bromobenzaldehyde from 2-amino-5-bromobenzenemethanol: With reference to Example 286, 2-amino-5-bromobenzenemethanol (23.32 g) and activated manganese dioxide (58.5 g) were added to acetone (300 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 17.5 hours and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-amino-5-bromobenzaldehyde (16.41 g, 71% yield). The structure of the product was confirmed by 1H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl3): δ 6.10-6.20 (2H, br), 6.57 (1H, d, J=8.8 Hz), 7.38 (1H, dd, J=8.8,2.4 Hz), 7.59 (1H, d, J=2.4 Hz), 9.81 (1H, s).
