Hydroquinone Dimethyl Ether is reported found in hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis L.) essential oil, Rhodophyllus icterius, papaya, peppermint oil, green tea, cherimoya and cooked shrimp.

Hydroquinone Dimethyl Ether is used as a weathering agent in paints and plastics, a fixative in perfumes, and a flavoring additive; Also used in dyes, as a resin intermediate, and in cosmetics and suntan creams.

Hydroquinone Dimethyl Ether is an ether. Ethers may react violently with strong oxidizing agents. In other reactions, which typically involve the breaking of the carbon-oxygen bond, ethers are relatively inert.
