Platycodin D is a saponin isolated from the root of P. grandiflorum. Root preparations have been used extensively in Chinese herbal medicine for many applications, particularly for upper respiratory disorders and inflammation. The cellular and physiological actions of purified platycodin D have not been elucidated.
