Pirlimycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Bacteroides, and Plasmodium. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome. Pirlimycin has been used by veterinarians in the treatment of mastitis in dairy cattle.
