Description
Chloroquine is an aminoquinoline antimalarial compound that acts by preventing detoxification of hematin within the Plasmodium digestive vacuole. Although it has lost its antimalarial efficacy through the development of mutations within the P. falciparum chloroquine resistance transporter, chloroquine is widely used as an autophagy inhibitor that can prevent autophagosome fusion with lysosomes and inhibit lysosomal acidification. It has been used in co-treatment with etoposide to inhibit adrenocortical tumor cell growth and to inhibit Cdk2 and ERK activity.
