  • Uses NS 1619 is a large conductance calcium-activated potassium channels (BKCa) activator and has been shown to induce precondition in the heart.
  • Definition ChEBI: A member of the class of benzimidazoles that is 1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazol-2-one in which the hydrogens at positions 1 and 5 are replaced are replaced by 2-hydroxy-5-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl and trifluoromethyl groups, respectively. It i an opener/activator of the large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel (Bkca).
  • Biochem/physiol Actions NS 1619 is a selective large conductance Ca2+-activated K+-channel activator. The compound is known for its vasodilating and anti-proliferative properties. It is studied that NS 1619 can protect cardiac muscle against ischemia and reperfusion injury.

    Opening of KCa channels with NS-1619 (1 mg/kg; i.p.) can delay protection in mouse hearts[3].

    Animal Model:Adult male outbred ICR mice[3]
    Dosage:1 mg/kg
    Administration:Pretreated i.p. 24 h before I/R
    Result:Pretreatment induced delayed protection 24 h later.
    Resulted in significant cardioprotection 24 h later, i.e., infarct size was reduced from 38.8 ± 3.7% to 19.8 ± 2.9%.
