A nitrogenous disinfection byproducts (N-DBPs) found in drinking water. Mutagenic in Salmonella and potent inducers of DNA strand breaks in mammalian cells.

Prismatic crystals or oily colorless or clear dark amber liquid.

May be sensitive to prolonged exposure to air and light. Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
tribromonitromethane decomposes with explosive violence if heated rapidly. Incompatible with oxidizing agents.

Safety Profile
Poison by
intraperitoneal route. In vapor form it is
highly toxic by ingestion and inhalation and
on contact with skin, eyes, and mucous
membranes. An explosive. When heated to
decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of

Purification Methods
