Description
Amidithion is a largely obsolete organophosphate insecticide that was mainly used on turf. It is highly soluble in water and has a low volatility, but little is known about its fate or persistence in ecosystems. Based on its chemical structure it is expected to be moderately to highly toxic to humans and biodiversity.
Uses
Amidithion is a pesticide
Definition
ChEBI: Amidithion is an organic thiophosphate.
Production Methods
Amidithion is commercially produced through the esterification of phosphorodithioic acid with 2-mercapto-N-(2-methoxyethyl)acetamide. This synthesis involves the reaction of O,O-dimethyl phosphorodithioate with a thiol-containing amide under controlled conditions, typically in the presence of a base and an inert solvent to facilitate the formation of the S-ester bond.
Mechanism of action
Acetylcholine esterase inhibitor
Pesticide Type
Insecticide; Acaricide
