Chemical Properties
amber liquid
Uses
Mannide Monooleate is an emulsifying agent utilized in Freund′s incomplete adjuvant.
Uses
Arlacel (165) is a very good, acid-stable emulsifier. It keeps the oil and water molecules together to maintain a product’s integrity and has no effect on the skin. Arlacel is a trade name for a glyceryl stearate and Peg 100 stearate mixture, sometimes also listed as a combination of glyceryl monostearate and Poe stearate.
General Description
Clear yellow to brown liquid.
Air & Water Reactions
Autooxidizes on storage in the presence of light and air, with the formation of free acidity and labile peroxides. Readily hydrolyzed in the presence of ultraviolet light and air and when refluxed with sodium hydroxide. Also readily hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase. . Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
An alcohol and ester. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior. They may initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.
Fire Hazard
MANNIDE MONOOLEATE is probably combustible.
