Chemical Properties
Soluble in water with reddish purple color, soluble in ethylene glycol ethyl ether, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in other organic solvents. Its aqueous solution produces a purple precipitate when added to concentrated hydrochloric acid; it produces a purple precipitate when added to concentrated sodium hydroxide solution. The dye is bluish green in concentrated sulfuric acid, and produces purple precipitate after dilution; it is reddish brown solution in concentrated nitric acid.
