Chemical Properties

It dissolves in water to a reddish-purple color, is soluble in ethylene glycol ether, is slightly soluble in ethanol, and is insoluble in other organic solvents. Adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to its aqueous solution produces a purple precipitate; adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution also produces a purple precipitate. The dye exhibits a bluish-green color in concentrated sulfuric acid and a purple precipitate upon dilution. It produces a reddish-brown solution in concentrated nitric acid.

Uses
