Chemical Properties
off-white to beige-green to light brown. 2-Aminonaphthalene-6,8-disulfonic acid [86-65-7]. (7-aminonaphthalene-1,3-disulfonic acid), amino G acid, C10H9NO6S2, Mr 303.3, and its bis-alkali-metal salts are very soluble in water, but the acid salts, especially the acid potassium salt, are much less soluble.
Uses
Azo dye intermediate.
Uses
7-Amino-1,3-naphthalenedisulfonic Acid is a reagent which may be used in the preparation of pyrimidine derivatives.
Production Methods
The disodium or dipotassium salt of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-6,8-disulfonic acid is heated with excess aqueous ammonia and ammonium bisulfite at 185℃ for 18 h. The reaction mixture is basified, heated to remove excess ammonia, neutralized, and evaporated while any residual sulfite is removed. The resulting amino G acid liquor (95 % yield) is used directly for caustic fusion to give g acid, the major outlet.
Safety Profile
Questionable
carcinogen with experimental neoplastigenic
data. When heated to decomposition it
emits toxic fumes of NOx and SOx.
