Definition
ChEBI: 2,3-dimethoxyphenol is a member of phenols and a member of methoxybenzenes.
General Description
2,3-Dimethoxyphenol is a plant-derived phenylpropanoid compound that is glycosidated to form glycoside compound.
Synthesis
Pyrogallol carboxylic acid 3,4-dimethyl ether (3.25)(40 g,0.2 mole) isheated in an oil bath at 150°under reduced pressure. The aciddecarboxylates and pyrogallol dimethyl ether distils at 120-25/17 mm.The product is redistilled at normal pressure and the fraction boiling at232-234° is collected. Yield 15 g (48.2%) (b.p.232-34°).
