Chemical Properties
Colorless liquid. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Fresh, oily-floral, citrusy odor with mildly herbaceous-green notes and moderate tenacity.
Uses
Undecanal dimethyl acetal is occasionally used in perfume compositions as a modifier for the aldehyde, mellowing and extending its effect into a wider field, beyond the topnote, where the aldehyde almost inevitably works.
Preparation
Undecanal dimethyl acetal is prepared from Undecanal and Methanol, usually with dry hydrogen chloride as condensing agent, or with Ferrichloride or similar catalyst.
