Colorless, slightly viscous liquid. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Very faint, metallic-green, musty-floral
odor of good tenacity.
Uses
2,2,2-Trichloro-1-phenylethanol is used as pharmaceutical intermediate.
Production Methods
2,2,2-Trichloro-1-phenylethanol can be produced 1) from Chloral with Aluminum trichloride
in Benzene.
2) from Benzaldehyde and Chloroform.
Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by subcutaneousroute. When heated to decomposition it emits toxicvapors of Clí.
