Aroma
The odor of dimethyl benzyl carbinyl isobutyrate is slightly fresher (less "heavy")
than that of the n-Butyrate, less warm, more
"chemical", but also more stable than the
normal ester.
Uses in Perfume
Finds some use of dimethyl benzyl carbinyl isobutyrate in perfumery as a modifierblender in Lavender compositions, Rose,
Chypre types and floral fragrances. It has good
tenacity and blends well with herbaceous as
well as floral materials.
Physical properties
Colorless liquid. Insoluble in water, soluble in
alcohol and oils.
Production Methods
Dimethyl benzyl carbinyl isobutyrate can be produced by direct esterification of D.M.B.C.
with iso-Butync acid in presence of a catalyst
and preferably under azeotropic conditions.
