Uses
C10 Ceramide (d18:1/10:0) or N-decanoyl-D-erythro-sphingosine has been used:
- as an internal standard in galactocerebrosidase (GALC) assay
- to study its role on the physical properties of edible organogels and on their ability to induce cell death of various cancer cell lines
- to study its mixing behavior with other ceramides having the same sphingosine base but varying N-linked acyl chain length
Definition
ChEBI: N-decanoylsphingosine is a N-acylsphingosine in which the ceramide N-acyl group is specified as decanoyl. It is functionally related to a decanoic acid.
Biological Activity
Ceramides modulate stress responses and inflammation. It also controls cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis.
