Uses
Iodoxybenzene can be used for ring cleavage of indole and imidazole derivatives; formation of quinones; dehydrogenation of 3-ketosteroids to dienones; dehydrogenation of other enones; allylic oxidation; and Nef reactions.
Preparation
Iodoxybenzene is prepared by disproportionation of Iodosylbenzene, by treatment of Phenyliodine(III) Dichloride with Sodium Hypochlorite, by Peracetic Acid (40%) oxidation of iodobenzene, or oxidation with Potassium Bromate in Sulfuric Acid (which is the best method).
storage
Iodoxybenzene should be freshly prepared and should not be heated in the absence of solvent because of the danger of explosion. This reagent should be handled in a fume hood.
