Uses
Bromophenol is a widely used chemical reagent generated by the electrophilic halogenation of phenol with bromine. 2-Bromophenol can be used as a precursor of resorcinol or as an anti-benzofuran diimide; 2-Bromophenol can be used as a disinfectant; Bromophenol blue is an acid phthalein dye commonly used as a pH indicator. It is used as a color marker in electrophoresis to monitor the progress of agarose gel electrophoresis and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Because bromophenol blue has a slight negative charge at mid-pH, it migrates in the same direction as DNA or proteins in the gel.
